- Keep your bandage on for about 8 hours, it is OK to keep your bandage on overnite on the first day.
- Remove your bandage, first wash your hands thoroughly, then wash your tattoo with warm soapy water. Use a mild bath soap or anti-bacterial handsoap. Pat your tattoo dry with a clean terry cloth towel. Apply A&D ointment or Aquaphor. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER OINTMENTS OTHER THAN THESE TWO!
- Your tattoo will form a protective scab. DO NOT PICK. The scab will peel off within the week.
- Continue using ointment for the next 4 days, 3-4 times a day. Make sure to wash your hands before touching your tattoo. After 4 days switch to unscented hand lotion like Eucerin, Lubriderm, or Curel. Continue to use for 2-3 weeks.
- If small red pimples form around your tattoo, you have devealoped heat rash. This is caused by clogged pores from TOO MUCH ointment. Wash your tattoo and switch to non-scented lotion like Lubriderm or Eucerin.
- Do not submerge your tattoo in water, this will pull the color out. Swimming and taking a bath are to be avoided for two weeks. Showers are OK.
- Protect your tattoo from the sun while it heals, use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher to keep the colors bright.
- If you have any questions call your tattoo artist. DO NOT CALL YOUR FRIENDS! They are not tattoo artists.Your artist is equipped to deal with any complications.
